
Cellist, Pin-I Wu was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. She began her cello studies with former Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra Cellist, Shi-Chi Lin. She received her Bachelor of Music, Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Instrumental Performance from the Frost School of Music, at the University of Miami where she studied with Professor Ross Harbaugh. During her studies at the University of Miami Ms. Wu participated in the University of Miami Symphony Orchestra, many chamber music ensembles, and, of particular interest to her, many contemporary music events.
Wu also studied with cellists Ian Hampton, the first cellist of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra; Carol Ou, faculty member at the New England Conservatory; Jean-Michel Fonteneau, faculty member at the San Francisco Conservatory; and Mihai Tetel, on the faculty at Ball State University. Her piano study has been with Dr. JB Floyd, pianist and chairperson at the Frost School of Music at UM. Wu's professional performance experience includes many solo recitals in Miami during her tenure there and many chamber ensemble as well as symphony concert performances. Performances have also included the Society of Composers International Conference in 2003, the International Computer Music Conference (2004) in Miami, a debut solo recital in Kaohsiung, Taiwan with Dr. JB Floyd and concerts with the Miami Bach Society.
Ms. Wu continues her professional life in South Florida, where in 2006, she gave the premier performance of " Prelude for the Year of the Dog 2006/95" by JB Floyd. This composition, written for cello and percussion included the percussionist, Wan-Chun Liao.
In 2009, Pin-I Wu will be returning to Taiwan for performances there.
